AR systems Flashcards
High speed drogue limitations
185KIAS-250KIAS 35,000 ft altitude 27" diameter -85-55 degrees C Fixed wing range 20-80 ft
Low speed drogue limitations
Extension retraction 105KIAS-120KIAS Extended 105KIAS-130KIAS 10,000 ft altitude -85-55 degrees C 46" diameter Refueling range 56-76 feet
Cross-ship manifold pressures
60 psig max operating pressure
28-40 psi normal range
AR Manifold pressures
120 psig max operating pressure
90-110 or 98-118 psi if pressurized normal operating range
240 psi proofed
360 psi burst
Pod fuel valves
two pod fuel valves control the supply of fuel to the AR pods from the AR manifold…Manual: panel operator opens and closes valves by pressing the button…Auto: valve opens when hose is pushed in past 80 ft mark (start of fixed wing refueling range) and closes when the hose is drawn out past 80 feet
Fuse tank specs
24,392 lb tank 2 ar pumps 1 transfer pump 1 FLCV fuel quantity indicator vent system
ifr pump specs
two pumps (aft/fwd)
primary use is to deliver fuel in flight when fuse tank is installed
jettison fuel overboard
pump output 90-110 unpressurized cabin 98-118 pressurized cabin
AR pods
aerodynamically shaped approx 48 inches in diameter
each pod has a fuel pump used to increase offload when using transfer pumps
house hydraulically operated reels
ADGR receptacle on bottom forward section
hose and drogue guillotine system
AR pod pump
3 phase/115 VAC electrically driven fuel pump
powered when respective pod MASTER power is on
Assists transfer pumps (pressure) during AR
45 plus or minus 10 psi, regulated to 50 psi
Atleast 6 transfer pumps required to run both left and right pod pumps, 3 per
300 gallon per minute with 8 transfer pumps
Hose reel system
hydraulically driven motor
approx. 93 feet of hose and drogue
visible hose is approx. 85 feet (8 feet inside for one wrap on the reel)
hose is marked with 1 foot white bands every 10 feet and five foot bands from 55-60 ft and 70-75 ft (HAAR refueling range)
Pod status lights
RED=hyd pressure low (below 1700 psi) (covert=circle and a “Y” all lights lit)
AMBER=tanker ready (covert=”Y”)
GREEN=fuel flowing (above 50 gpm) (covert=perimeter lit)
