aeration
The addition of oxygen to the water of an aquaculture system to ensure proper oxygen levels for all species of aquatic life.
anadromous
an aquatic animal born in freshwater that migrates to the sea and returns to freshwater to reproduce or spawn.
aquaculture
fish production or farming that may be done outdoors or indoors. The breeding, rearing, and harvesting of aquatic plants and animals.
Concentrated aquatic animal production
The breading, rearing, and harvesting of plants and animals in all types of water environments. May be referred to as aquaculture or fish farming.
Crustaceans
A large group of anthropods that have exoskeletons that they molt. The group includes crabs, lobsters, shrimp, crawfish, and prawns.
Dissolved Oxygen
The amount of gaseous oxygen dissolved in the water. The oxygen that is dissolved in water by diffusion from the surrounding air, through aeration of turbulent water, and as a waste product of photosynthesis. The microscopic molecules of oxygen that are dissolved in water.

A form of aquaculture in which fish are raised in enclosures to be sold as food
freshwater aquaculture
The raising and breeding aquatic animals and plants for economic purposes by the use of ponds, reservoirs, lakes, rivers, and other inland waterways
fry
young fish, especially when newly hatched.
hatchery
a place where the hatching of fish or poultry eggs is artificially controlled for commercial purposes.
intensive recirculating aqauculture system
the water is reused as it circulates through the system.
mariculture
the cultivation of fish or other marine life for food.
Marine aqauculture
aquaculture practiced in seawater habitats,
