what doe Homeostasis mean?
Sustaining a stable internal environment
What happens when something in the body is to high or low?
Homeostasis uses Negative Feedback to bring them back to normal
What are the stages of negative Feedback?
Stimulus detected, Receptors, Sensory Neurons, CNS, Motor Neurons, Effectors
What is the Nervous System?
The Nervous system detects and reacts to stimuli
What does the Sensory Neurone do ?
Carries electrical impulses from receptors to CNS
What does the motor Neurone do ?
Carries electrical impulses from CNS to effectors
What are the effectors ?
All muscles and glands which respond to nervous impulses
What are receptors ?
Cells that detect stimulus
What are synapses ?
They connect between two neurons and transfer chemicals to each neuron
What are Reflexes ?
Reflexes help prevent injuries
How does the reflex arc pass information in a reflex ?
Receptors,Relay Neuron,Motor Neuron,Effectors
Where are all hormones produced ?
In the Endocrine Glands
Examples of Endocrine Glands:
Pancreas,Testes Adrenal Gland,Pituitary Glands
What hormones are produced in the Pancreas ?
Insulin
What hormones are produced in the Adrenal Glands
Adrenaline
What hormones are produced in the Testes ?
Testosterone
What hormones are produced in Pituitary Glands
Many Hormones
What controls Blood Glucose Levels ?
Insulin and Glucagon
What is the use of Insulin ?
Removes glucose from blood
When blood glucose levels are too low what needs to be done ?
Glucagon is added
When blood levels are to high what needs to be done ?
Insulin is added
What Hormones control the menstrual cycle ?
FSH- follice stimulating hormone
LH- luteinising hormone
Progesterone
Oestrogen
What is a tissue ?
A group of similar cells working together perform a particular function
What is an organ ?
A group of tissues that work together to carry out a particular function
What is an organ system ?
A group of ogans working together to carry out a particular function
