Abolition Movement
Movements to end slavery and the slave trade. The first to abolish slavery was great britain, then the US followed by other countries.
LO 2: Changes in beliefs due to enlightenment led to abolition movements.
Empiricism
Belief that knowledge comes from experiences that can be gained through experimentation.
LO 1: This philosophy was spread by John Locke who was also responsible for spreading Enlightenment beliefs
Enlightenment
Changes in beliefs and values during the 1700s and 1800s. People started to value logic and individualism over culture and religion.
LO 1: Enlightenment would cause many reforms and revolutions
Suffrage movement
A movement where women protested for the right to vote. This movement was popular in the US and France.
LO 2: leaders such as Mary Wollstonecraft and Seneca Falls were some of the most important people and events that helped women obtain voting rights.
American revolution
The American revolution was inspired by European enlightenment. Colonists sought to gain independence from britain and their mercantilists policies.
LO 3: The founding fathers signed the declaration of independence and the treaty of paris to officially gain Americas independence.
