Columbian Exchange
lasting connection between the old and new worlds. The exchange of goods, plants, animals, people, and diseases.
Encomienda system
The spanish form of slavery forcing the natives to work on farms (agricultural slavery). The Spanish justify the enslavement of the natives by saying they are saving them by converting them to christianity (they will be saved in the after life) and they will have the military to protect them.
Asiento system
Spanish enslaved the natives but they kept dying, they brought slaves from West Africa. This is the start of slave trade. The king was okay with this because there was a tax paid to the king for every slave that was brought over.
Landbridge
Connecting Eueriasa (Europe and Asia) to the Americas the connection was from Siberia to Alaska. They made their way to America. How people were spreading around the world.
Mayas
from guatemala, belize, and southern mexico. They were extremely advanced scientific, advanced writing, and advanced calendars.
Incas
They were based in Peru, South America. They were conquered by the Spanish
Aztects
Fall of the Mayan empire. They were based in Peru, South America. They were conquered by the Spanish. dominate Mexico

reasons for the Spanish coming to the Americas
Pueblo Revolt of 1680
Pueblo Indians from the southwest rebel against the Spanish because they do not want to be forced to convert to christianity which leads to the only successful revolt by the natives against the spanish.
Animism
Americans believed that all living things had a spirit so they respected those things. If they were to kill an animal they would completely use the animal resources. They would never disrespect a living thing.
Conquistadores
Spanish explorers who led expeditions to the new world for Gold, God, and Glory.
Ponce de Leon
Spanish explorer that explored and named Florida. Becomes the first governor of Puerto Rico.
Hernan Cortes
The reason why the Spanish takeover the Aztecs.
Francisco Pizarro
The reason why the Spanish conquered the Incan empire.
Henry the Navigator
Portuguese exploring prince to find out how to get to better routes around south africa. Modernize maps. Helped people travel around the world easier.
