13th amendment

14th amendment
grant citizenship to “All persons born or naturalized in the United States,” thereby granting citizenship to formerly enslaved people.
15th amendment

Abraham Lincoln
US President elected in 1860, first president elected from republican party
Anaconda Plan
military strategy proposed by Union General Winfield Scott early in the American Civil War. plan was naval blockade of the Confederate littoral, a thrust down the Mississippi, and the strangulation of the South by Union land and naval forces.
Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam pitted Union General George McClellan’s Army of the Potomac against General Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia. The Maryland Campaign was Lee’s first attempt to take the war North and it was McClellan who was tasked by President Abraham Lincoln with stopping him.

Black Codes
restricted black people’s right to own property, conduct business, buy and lease land, and move freely through public spaces. A central element of the Black Codes were vagrancy laws.
Bleeding Kansas
a series of violent civil confrontations in Kansas Territory, and to a lesser extent in western Missouri, between 1854 and 1859. It emerged from a political and ideological debate over the legality of slavery in the proposed state of Kansas.
