PRIMATOLOGISTS:
An expert in the study of primates - our non-human ancestors
HOMINIDS
Any member of the biological family Hominidae (the great apes). This family includes humans, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans
BIPEDALISM
when someone can move with 2 feet such as walking or running
ARCHAEOLOGISTS:
An expert in studying human and non-human (primate) history through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains.
ETHNOCENTRISM:
The way cultures look at/judge one another based on a culture’s pre-perceived notions of another.
ETHOLOGY:
tudy of the origins and cultures of different peoples/races. Ethology focuses on marriage customs, music, art, technology, religion, kinship patterns, and political and economic systems.
PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY:
The study of human’s
biological and physical development throughout history.
Evolution of the human body, trying to find the answer of how humans came to be what they are today.
PALEOANTHROPOLOGY:
“bones and stones” branch of physical anthropology, paleoanthropology focuses on the preserved remains or impressions left by people of the past. Paleoanthropologists study skeletal remains, ancient tools, animal bones, remains of vegetable matter, etc.
LINGUISTIC ANTHROPOLOGY
the study of languages and human interaction
CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY:
The study of ideas, values, attitudes, and behaviors commonly shared by members of society.
CULTURAL RELATIVISM:
A concept presented by Franz Boas which proposed the idea that an anthropologist can not compare two cultures as each culture has its own internal rules and expectations that must be accepted. While conducting research, an anthropologist must not apply their own cultural bias as cultures are not comparable due to complex differences.
CASE STUDY:
An in-depth, detailed examination of a particular case within a real-world context.
