What is the conscious mind
The part of our mind that we know about and are aware of and it is only the tip of the iceberg
What is most of the mind made up of
The unconscious which can be accessed through dreams or a slip of the tongue

The selfish demand
Operates on the pleasure principle
Present at birth
Demands instant gratification
What is Ego(3)
The reality check
It is the mediator between the two parts of the personality
Develops around the age of two
What is the role of the Ego
To reduce conflict between the demands of the Id and Superego
What is the superego(4)
The morality check
Formed at the end of the phallic stage (5 yrs)
Sense of right or wrong
Punishes the ego for wrong doing
What are the 5 psychosexual stages
Oral
Anal
Phallic
Latency
Genital
What is Oral(3)
The first Psychosexual stage
- Between the ages of 0-1
- Focus of pleasure is the mouth
- mothers breast is the object of desire
What is anal(dont be dirty)

The second Psychosexual stage
- Between the ages of 1-3
- Focus of pleasure is the anus
- Child gains pleasure from witholding or expelling faeces
What is the phallic stage(3)
The third Psychosexual stage
- Between 3-5
- Focus of pleasure is the genital area
- child experiences the oedipus complex or the electra complex
What is latency(1)
The fourth Psychosexual stage
Earlier comflicts are repressed

The fifth Psychosexual stage
- Sexual desires become conscious alongside the onset of puberty
What are the consequnces if oral is an unresolved conflict
Oral fixation: Smoking, Biting nails, sarcastic, critical
What are the consequnces if anal is an unresolved conflict(2))
Anal retentive- Perfectionist and obsessive
Anal expulsive- Thoughtless and messy
