What are the 3 assumptions of the behaviourist approach?
A
- Only observable and measurable behaviour should be studied
- We are born as blank slates (tabula rasa)
- The basic processes that govern learning are the same in all species

A
- Internal mental processes can and should be studied scientifically
- How are brains process the world around us effects how we behave
- The mind works like a computer

A
- Can only fully understand behaviour if we look to biological structures and processes
- Our genes, neurochemistry and nervous system are the basis of any psychological process/ behaviour
- Human behaviour if genetically determined through the process of evolution and natural selection

A
- Most of the influences on our behaviour come from our unconscious mind
- Our psyche he is made up of several parts that are continually at war which drives behaviour
- All children go through a series of psychosexual stages and if they experience unresolved conflict this can affect adult life

A
- Humans have free will and are active agents meaning they determine their own development
- Humans strive towards self- actualisation
- To be psychologically healthy your ideal and perceived self must be congruent
