Applied Social Behavior Research 1 Flashcards
Categories in grounded theory designs
Are themes of basic information identified in the data by the researcher and used to understand a process.
Grounded theory designs
Are systematic, qualitative procedures that researchers use to generate a theory that explains, at a broad conceptual level, a process, an action, or an interaction about a substantive topic.
central phenomenon
It is an issue or process explored in qualitative research.
changing observational role
It is where researchers adapt their role to the situation, such as entering a site and observing as a nonparticipant and then later becoming a participant.
cleaning the data
is the process of visually inspecting the data for scores (or values) that are outside the accepted range of scores.
cleaning the data
Is the process of visually inspecting the data for scores (or values) that are outside the accepted range of scores.
coefficient alpha
Is a measure of the internal consistency of items on an instrument when the items are scored as continuous variables (e.g., strongly agree to strongly disagree).
coefficient of determination
Assesses the proportion of variability in one variable that can be determined or explained by a second variable.
cohort studies
Are longitudinal survey designs in which a researcher identifies a subpopulation based on some specific characteristic and studies that subpopulation over time.
collaboration in narrative research
The inquirer actively involves the participant in the inquiry as it unfolds. May include many steps in the research process.
