Applicability and universality of the Quran Flashcards
what is asbab al nuzul
occasions of revelations, ayats were revealed gradually over 23 years. An event happened an ayat was revealed as a response.
What does asbab al nuzul seem to suggest
Some people may decide to limit the knowledge and wisdom provided by god strictly to its contextual environment, however this would contradict the everlastingness of the quran and its relevance of revelation.
What is the purpose then of asbab al nuzul
To
Why did god gradually reveal the knowledge to the arabs
Uneducated arabs were taught in a systematic way over a period of which revelation was given, not burdening the people. Hence there became a need for the science to discover what the arabs were being educated about and what verses pertained to the given event.
universality of the quran
Quran was presented to mankind, not arabkind or to a specific tribe.
Who is responsible for guidance of mankind
God himself would be responsible for the guidance of his creation like a creator is responsible for providing a handbook if he wants the clientel to use his creation correctly
What does surah rad ayat suggest
That each group of people would be recieving a guide, such that god provides a specfic guide for each group
* some may say that muhammad was only for the arabs
What does surah rad ayat 7 say
The disbelievers say, “If only a sign could be sent down to him from his Lord.” You ˹O Prophet˺ are only a warner. And every people had a guide.
Why is surah rad Ayat 7 an invalid argument against the universality of the quran
Well for every community and ethnic group god sent a warner and a guide, this suggests the prophet himself is a guide to all of mankind and his group of people is considered the entire ummah (world).
What did the non believers intend by the surah rad ayat 7 in relation to the prophets miracles
They would expect something absurd such as every miracle being showed to them however the intention of this vcerse was to present that every nation is brought a miracle compatible with them.
how does surah rad ayat 7 not refute universality in relation to why the actual prophets were sent to each community
Each guider sent to a specific group was intended to convey the message along with miracles to demonstrate the cause of belief. However the quran itself can be argued as that living miracle and guide which is now the argument amongst them today.
according to the notion that every community is sent a prophet who demonstrates a miracle their community understands what is its impact in regards to the quran
This denotes the quran as the final miracle compatible for all of the communities which will come after it. Also shows that the way of god is unchanging he is still demonstrating a miracle to the communities as the quran is the final revelation and miracle of god.
what is the meaning of qawm
the word qawm does not implky any specific race ethnicity etc . it includes all as the other verses indicate therefore is equivocal with nation ummah
What is the proof that the meaning of qawm does not necessarily refer to an ethnic group or due to a physical aspect
Allah uses examples of the qawm of kafirs, qawm of believers etc and these are/can be made up of people with different ethnicities etc hence proving the terminology is not intended to show use implying race or ethnicity but categorisation of x people under a conception. like the nation of evildoers implies all those who do evil
What is an important fact to notice that the message of islam is universal in terms of the prophets companions
non arabs that are companions of the prophets, that were considered muslim such as salman al farsi, that was considered to be from the ahlulbayt
