Real‑time traffic conditions: get real-time traffic information to calculate your ETA. Maps gives you details on what’s causing a backup, so you can tell if there’s a major incident or just a temporary slowdown. And if traffic’s a mess, Maps offers alternative routes to save you time.

Flyover: See select major metro areas from the air with photo-realistic, interactive 3D views. Explore cities in high resolution as you zoom, pan, tilt, and rotate around the city and its landmarks.

And only iPad apps can draw on all the other amazing technologies built into iPad, like the A7 chip, accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass.

The iTunes Store is the world’s largest and most trusted store for apps and entertainment. And now with the new Kids category this helps parents and teachers find age-appropriate apps for children.

Categories Include: Business, Education, Entertainment, Family & Kids, Finance, Food & Drink, Games, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, Music, News, Photo & Video, Productivity, Sports, Travel.

Pages NEW

A

Pages for iOS is a powerful word processor that gives you everything you need to create documents that look beautiful. And read beautifully. It lets you work seamlessly between Mac and iOS devices. And even work effortlessly with people who use Microsoft Word.

Express yourself both verbally and visually. But always artistically. Tap to choose fonts, styles, and character and line spacing. Drop in a photo. Q

Siri

A

Siri lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. Ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you talk. Siri understands what you say, knows what you mean, and even talks back. Siri is so easy to use and does so much, you’ll keep finding more and more ways to use it.

Talk to Siri as you would to a person. Say something like “Tell my wife I’m running late” or “Remind me to call the vet.” Siri not only understands what you say, it’s smart enough to know what you mean. So when you ask “Any good burger joints around here?” Siri will reply “I found a number of burger restaurants near you.” Then you can say “Hmm. How about tacos?” Siri remembers that you just asked about restaurants, so it will look for Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood. And Siri is proactive, so it will question you until it finds what you’re looking for.

Here’s another amazing way to get things done: just use your voice. Instead of typing, tap the microphone icon on the keyboard. Then say what you want to say and iPhone listens. Tap Done, and iPhone converts your words into text. Use dictation to write messages, take notes, search the web, and more. Dictation also works with third-party apps, so you can update your Facebook status, tweet, or write and send Instagrams.

25
Q

Reminders

A

iPad never forgets, so you won’t, either. The Reminders app lets you set location- or time‑based alerts for all the things you need to get done — even recurring ones. And iCloud keeps Reminders in sync on all your devices, so you can make a list on your iPad and be alerted on your iPhone.

26
Q

Contacts

A

Use the Contacts app to store names, numbers, email addresses, Twitter handles, and more. The profile information of all your Facebook friends is integrated into Contacts, too, so whenever they make a change, you automatically stay up to date.

27
Q

The 5MP iSight camera on iPad lets you take beautiful photos. The large Retina display makes a picture-perfect viewfinder. Snap a square-format pic. Quickly switch to shooting video. Hold the shutter button down and get rapid-fire shooting to capture life’s fleeting moments.

28
Q

Notes

A

Whether it’s a weekly shopping list or your top ten favorite bands (for today, anyway), Notes keeps important information close at hand. There’s a Dictation feature for when you’re too busy to type. And Notes stays up to date on all your devices thanks to iCloud. You can even share notes using AirDrop — instead of on the refrigerator.

36
Q

Remote

A

Don’t get up — use your iPad to wirelessly control iTunes music on your Mac, PC, or Apple TV.

37
Q

iOS 7

A

The purpose was to create an experience that was simpler, more useful, and more enjoyable — while building on the things people love about iOS. Ultimately, redesigning the way it works led us to redesign the way it looks.

Simplicity is often equated with minimalism. Yet true simplicity is so much more than just the absence of clutter or the removal of decoration. It’s about offering up the right things, in the right place, right when you need them. It’s about bringing order to complexity.

38
Q

AirDrop

A

Sending a photo or a document to someone via text or email is fine. But if that someone is right next to you, a text or an email suddenly feels like too many steps. Enter AirDrop for iOS. It lets you quickly and easily share photos, videos, contacts — and anything else from any app with a Share button. Just tap Share, then select the person you want to share with. AirDrop does the rest using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No setup required. And transfers are encrypted, so what you share is highly secure.

With AirDrop, you can share, say, a photo or a video with a specific person or multiple people. Just tap the Share icon, select who you want to share with, and let AirDrop do its thing.

You’re automatically visible in AirDrop to your contacts running iOS 7. But you can also make yourself visible to anyone nearby using iOS 7 or to no one at all. One tap in Control Center is all it takes.

Recipients can choose to save whatever you send. When they do, the content is saved right where it should be — a photo in Photos, a pass in Passbook, a contact in Contacts, and so on.

39
Q

Control Center

A

Control Center gives you quick access to the controls and apps you always seem to need right this second. Just swipe up from any screen — including the Lock screen — to do things like switch to Airplane mode, turn Wi-Fi on or off, or adjust the brightness of your display. You can even shine a light on things with a new flashlight. Never has one swipe given you so much control.

Turn on or off Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Do Not Disturb. Lock your screen’s orientation or adjust its brightness. Play, pause, or skip a song. Connect to AirPlay-enabled devices. And quickly access your flashlight, timer, calculator, and camera.

40
Q

Notification Center

A

Notification Center lets you know about new mail, missed calls, to-dos that need doing, and more. And a new feature called Today gives you a convenient summary of, well, today. One glance at your iPhone and you’ll know if it’s a certain someone’s birthday, if you’ll need an umbrella, or if traffic will slow down your commute.1 You’ll even get a heads-up on tomorrow. You can access Notification Center from any screen, including the Lock screen. Just swipe down. And get up to speed.

41
Q

Multitasking

A

Multitasking has always been a smart way to switch between apps. Now it’s even smarter. Because iOS 7 learns when you like to use your apps and can update your content before you launch them. So if you tend to check your favorite social app at 9:00 a.m. every day, your feed will be ready and waiting for you. That’s multitasking in iOS 7. It knows what you want to do before you do.

Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open. To quit an app, just swipe it up and out of preview.

iOS schedules updates during power-efficient times. Like when your device is on and connected to Wi-Fi. So your battery isn’t drained unnecessarily.

42
Q

iCloud Keychain

A

Lots of things you do on the web require passwords. Now iCloud can remember your account names, passwords, and credit card numbers for you. And Safari will enter them automatically whenever you need to sign in to a site or shop online. It works on all your approved iOS 7 devices and Mac computers running OS X Mavericks. And with 256-bit AES encryption, it’s highly secure.

43
Q

iTunes Radio

A

iTunes Radio features streaming radio stations you’ll love from day one — from the best selection of music. The more you listen, the more personalized it becomes. And it’s available on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, and Apple TV for free. It’s radio re-imagined.

Build new stations while you listen, and fine-tune the mix by adding artists and songs or skipping music you don’t like.

44
Q

Airplay

A

AirPlay lets you wirelessly stream what’s on your iOS device to your HDTV and speakers via Apple TV. Or mirror exactly what’s on your display to the big screen. Vacation photos, blockbusters, the latest games — AirPlay and Apple TV put it all on your TV.

You have friends over and you want to share great photos or the perfect party mix that’s on your iPhone. Or you’re in the middle of an epic action movie on your iPad that could use a little more screen. That’s where AirPlay comes in. Just connect your device and Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network, and the AirPlay icon automatically appears. Then tap the AirPlay icon in a specific app — Photos, Videos, Music, Safari, or any AirPlay-enabled app — and everything streams to your HDTV via your Apple TV.1 It’s a simple way to play your stuff on the biggest screen and the best sound system in the house.

AirPlay Mirroring lets you show exactly what’s on your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch screen to everyone in the room.2 Show web pages, games, photos, videos, spreadsheets, class material, and more on your HDTV via Apple TV. Zoom in and out and pause for applause. Rotate from portrait to landscape and your audience sees that, too. AirPlay does it all wirelessly, so you can work the room or sit comfortably among the crowd. If you see it, so can they.

Take control on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch while the action unfolds on your widescreen TV.3 Patrol the air while commanding the cockpit from your couch. Browse the latest in interior design ideas and save your favorites on your iPhone or iPad. With AirPlay, your TV displays talents it never knew it had.

45
Q

Airprint

A

AirPrint is an Apple technology that lets you create full-quality printed output without the need to download or install drivers. AirPrint is built in to many printer models from most popular printer manufacturers. Just select an AirPrint printer on your local network and print from your favorite iOS or OS X app.

46
Q

Spotlight Search

A

You can use Spotlight to search for content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. To access Spotlight, swipe down on your home screen to reveal the search field.

47
Q

iCloud

A

iCloud lets you access your music, photos, documents from whatever device you’re on. It’s easy to set up and use. And with features that give you peace of mind and make sharing simple, iCloud is also great with just one apple device.

Everywhere. Automatically. That’s the way it should be, and iCloud makes it a reality. So when you buy a song, you don’t have to download it over and over to enjoy it on multiple devices. Or worry that a document doesn’t contain your latest revisions. Or spend time transferring photos. iCloud takes care of everything for you. Just like that.

Create a shared photo stream for your island vacation and you can see snapshots and videos from everyone in your group. Send a location-based alert to your family members and they’ll know just where you are and when you arrive. With iCloud, you can share exactly what you want, with exactly whom you want.

Misplaced your device? iCloud can help you find it, and prevent anyone else from using it in the meantime. Have important information on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? iCloud backs up your data daily over Wi-Fi and can restore it all if you ever need it. And those are just two of the many ways iCloud has your back.

48
Q

Passbook

A

Passbook keeps things like airline boarding passes, movie tickets, and gift cards all in one place, letting you scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, redeem a coupon, and more.

You can add passes to Passbook in several ways, such as:

Passbook-enabled apps: When you buy tickets, check in for a flight, or add a card through an iOS app, the app will offer or prompt you to add a pass to Passbook. To view a list of featured Passbook-enabled apps on your device, select the Welcome pass in Passbook and tap “Apps for Passbook”.

Mail or Messages: Passes can be sent as attachments or links through email or Messages, and you can add them to Passbook by tapping or clicking on them. Example: An email confirming your flight could include your boarding pass as a Passbook-enabled attachment.

Web browser: Websites or webmail can also include passes as attachments or links. You can click or tap these links to add them to Passbook.

Barcode scanner*: You can add a pass by scanning a barcode with your camera. Tap Scan Code on the Passbook pass and point your camera at the barcode. Note: Passbook can scan only 2D barcodes that contain pass information.

Share Passes*: You can share a pass using Messages, Email, and AirDrop by tapping the share icon on the pass.

Using passes
Some passes include time- or location-based information. These passes may automatically appear at the appropriate time or place. For example, when you arrive at the airport your boarding pass should appear. Slide to unlock your device to display and scan the pass.
