What does leptin do?
The satiety hormone!
Switches off appetite
What does secretin do in relation to appetite?
When acids reach the small intestine, cells there release it
Produces pancreatic fluid, enhances cholecystokinin
What does cholecystokinin do in relation to appetite?
Released when protein and fat enter the small intestine
Secretion enhanced by secretin
Signals pancreas to produce insulin
Stimulates gallbladder contraction
Triggers satiety in brain
What does somatostatin do?
Released between meals to reduce digestive activity
Secreted by stomach, intestine, pancreas
Slows gastric emptying
Reduces GI muscle contractions
Reduces blood flow to gut
What does peptide YY do in relation to appetite?
Released in hours following a meal
Supress appetite
