What is the tender diet and what are examples of permitted and non permitted foods?
What it is:
- a regular menu
- everything allowed except hard or raw foods (most veggies are cooked)
Permitted:
- firm food
- crunchy food
- sticky food
non permitted:
- hard, raw veggies
- nuts
- hard dried fruits
What is the soft diet and what are examples of permitted and non permitted foods?
What it is:
- chewing is possible but more difficult
permitted:
- partially firm food, can be separated with a fork
- tourtiere, meat pie, hashbrowns
not permitted:
- grilled or tough meat or in large pieces
- sticky food
What is the minced diet and what are examples of permitted and non permitted foods?
what is it:
- minimal chewing
- can be reshaped or reformed
permitted:
- finely sliced food with sauce
- meatloaf, small pasta, ground meats
not permitted:
- crust
- grilled sausage
What is the pureed diet and what are examples of permitted and non permitted foods?
what is it:
- no chew necessary
- can be reshaped
permitted:
- smooth puree
- fish puree, meat puree
not permitted:
- puree with texture
What is IDDSI 7?
normal every day food
normal sizes and normal texture
What is IDDSI 6?
can be eaten with a fork, spoon or chopsticks
no knife required
chewing required
bite size foods
permitted:
soft, tender meats
steamed boiled veggies
mashed or crushed foods
not permitted: bones of meat and fish hard, raw veggies nuts, dried fruits regular dry bread
What is IDDSI 5?
can be eaten with a fork or spoon can be scooped and shaped on a plate lumps are easy to squash with tongue minimal chewing required minced pieces of food
permitted:
finely minced, chopped, mashed foods
extremely thick smooth, non pouring sauce or gravy
not permitted:
particles larger than 2mm
What is IDDSI 4?
usually eaten with a spoon cannot be drunk from a cup or straw does not require chewing can be piped, layered or molded not lumps and not sticky liquids must not separate from solids
permitted: purees suitable for infants fork dip test spoon tilt test cohesive enough to hold its shape on a spoon
What is IDDSI 3?
can be drawn from a cup some effort is required to sip through cannot be molded cannot be eaten with a fork no chewing required
permitted:
sauce, gravy
fruit syrup
fork drip test
What is IDDSI 2?
flows off the spoon
sippable, pours quickly from spoon
What is IDDSI 1?
thicker than water
requires a little more effort than thin liquids
goes through a straw, syringe
