Parody
make fun of a literary work/an author by writing an imitation of the work or of the author’s style.
Pathos
a sympathetic feeling of pity or compassion evoked by an artistic work. (appeal to emotions)
Person
describes the relationship of a writer/speaker to an audience by examining the pronouns that are used
Persona
the character created by the voice and narration of the speaker of a text.
Personification
a figure of speech in which an object or animal is given human feelings, thoughts, or attitudes.
Point of View
the perspective from which a story is told.
Preterition
the pretense of omitting something for the purpose of attracting attention to it.
Prewriting
encompasses all the activities that take place before a writer actually starts a rough draft.
Process Analysis
exposition; answers the question how? and explains how something works or gives step-by-step directions for doing something.
Prolepsis
the anticipation and answering of possible objections in rhetorical speech.
Publication
the stage of the writing process when the writer shares their writing with the Intended audience.
Pun
a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.
Purpose
the goal the writer wants to achieve in a piece of writing.
Reductio ad absurdum (“reduction to absurdity”)
an appeal that asks an audience to recognize an idea as either self-contradictory or as so unreasonable as to be absurd.
Repetition
the repeated use of sounds, words, or ideas for effect and emphasis.
