Q

physical weathering examples

A

thermal expansion: rock expands when exposed to heat
abrasion: rocks scratching and rubbing against each other causing breakage

Q

chemical weathering examples

A

oxidation: rock breaks bc of exposure to oxygen
hydrolysis: combines acidic water and rocks and forms clay and salt
carbonation: water and co2 make carbonic acid which breaks down rocks

12
Q

biological weathering examples

A

burrowing animals: animals dig in the soil to burrow causing surrounding rocks to break or damage
organic material: the byproduct of plant and animal decomposition, added to soil and to minerals in rocks
lichens: lichens like algae and fungus produce acid that causes rocks to break down when in contact with it
