AP2 NOW Flashcards
Energy
Energy
The ability to do work. Measured in Joules (J).
Power
The rate of transfer of energy. Measured in Watts (W).
Work
The energy transferred by a force.
Name all the energy stores
Kinetic Gravitational Thermal
Elastic Electromagnetic Chemical Nuclear
Conserved
When the quantity of something does not change after a process takes place.
Kinetic energy
The energy that an object possesses due to its motion
Elastic energy
The energy stored by an object when it is squashed or stretched
Gravitational energy
The energy an object has due to its position above Earth
Chemical energy
Energy stored in the bonds of chemical compoun
Thermal energy
The energy stored in a system due to its temperature.
Useful energy
Energy transferred into a form we want
Wasted energy
Energy in a form we don’t want and can’t use - normally dissipated to the surroundings as heat
Fossil fuels
Formed from the remains of ancient plants or animals. Examples are coal, crude oil and natural gas.
Nuclear
Takes energy from the splitting of atoms.
Renewable
An energy resource that can be replaced and will not run out. Examples are solar, wind, waves, geothermal and biomass.
Non-renewable
An energy resource that cannot be replaced and will be used up.
Energy resource
Something with stored energy that can be released in a useful way.
Biofuels
Any fuel taken from living or recently living organisms.
Wind
A wind turbine uses the force of the wind.
Waves
Waves are used to make a floating generator move up and down.
Hydroelectric
Uses the power of flowing water to turn turbines.
Tidal
Traps water from each high tide behind a barrage. The high tide can then be released into the sea through turbines.
Solar
Solar cells and solar panels use the Sun’s energy to generate electricity or heat water.
Cytoplasm
This is a jelly-the substerce nhere mast cherical reactions happen
Name three specialised cells
Red blood cell
Sperm cell
Root hair cell
Talk about a sperm cell’s adaptation
They have a stream lined head to swim faster and a tale to swim towards the egg cell
What is a specialised cell?
A cell designed to carry out one specific job
Name adaptations of a red blood cell
Large surface area
* Contains haemoglobin which picks up oxygen
• Has no nucleus to make room for more oxygen
What is the level of organisation?
Specialised Cell
Tissue
Organ
System
Organism
Organisation
The SAME cells make up a tissuel similar function.
DIFFERENT tissues make up an organ.
DIFFERENT organs make up and organ system.
DIFFERENT organ systems make up an organism,
THE JOURNEY of the sperm cell
Released
Into the vagina
Through the cervix
Through fallopian tube
When is the egg realised?
Day 14
What is digested by enzyme?
Amylase
What is a atom?
The smallest possible atom
Molecule
Two or more atoms bonded together
Element
Chemical containing only one type of atom
Compound
Chemical containing two or more different elements bonded together(can only be molecules)
Mixture
Chemical containing two or more elements or compounds_unbonded
What is a displacement reaction?
A reaction where a more reactive element /metal Takes the place of a less reactive metal/element
Sublimation
Gas into a solid
