Invective

Inversion
Special language of a profession or group.
Jargon
When a writer tries to persuade the audience based on statistics, facts, and reason.
Logical Appeal: Logos
Song-like; characterized by emotion, subjectivity, and imagination.
Lyrical
Method or form of a literary work; manner in which a work of literature is written.
Mode
Similar to tone, mood is the primary emotional attitude of the work.
Mood
Telling a story in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or drama; 1 of the 4 modes of discourse.
Narration
Impersonal presentation of events and characters. It’s a writers attempt to move himself/herself from any subjective, personal involvement in the story.
Objectivity
When a writer obscures or denies the complexity of the issues in an argument.
Oversimplification
Figure of speech composed of contradictory words or phrases, such as bitter sweet.
Oxymoron
Movement of a literary piece from one point or section to another.
Pacing
Short tale that teaches a moral, similar to but shorter than allegory.
