Affect/Effect
Affect: (v.) The game will affect the tournament standings
Effect: (v.) He’ll effect many changes in the company.
(n.) He miscalculated the effects of his actions.
Spacing
The cat was reported missing tonight._The authorities say it will never be found.
Died
The cat died yesterday because of the cancer it had.
Ages
The cat was 100 years old.
The movie is now 20 years old.
States: spell out the names of states and large cities.
Denver, Colorado.
Los Angeles, California
Months: Capitalize in All uses.
The coldest month this year was December.
Months: when the month is used with a specific date, abbreviate it.

Months: spell out All months when being used alone or with a year alone.
He was born in December 1980. (No comma between month & year).
The class ended early December.
To: use between two dates, times, or numerals.
The restaurant is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at night.

Using “who”/”whom”:
Who: refers to person or animal with a name
Who is chasing that little boy?
The woman who ate the sandwich is rude.
Using who/whom:
Whom: refers to a subject directly or indirectly
It depends on whom you ask.
The person whom rented this bike is out of town.
Its/it’s:
It’s- A contraction used for “it is”/”it has” statements
It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other.
Its/it’s:
Its- The possessive form of the neutral pronoun.
Working at the thrift store has its perks.
Apostrophe: used to show possession. If the word ends with the letter S put an apostrophe after the word.
Normal: The school’s success is due to hard work.
Letter S: The news’ coverage is on cnn.
A.m./p.m.:
Always lowercase.
Avoid “10 a.m. this morning”-a.m. implies morning.
Noon and midnight stand alone.-dont use 12 noon…12 is noon.

numerals: -Spell out numbers one to nine. Anything after is numerical. -use numericals for sports. -percentages use numericals -weights, court decisions, ratios -using "billion/million" in a sentence Don't start sentences with numericals.

- The woman received a 3 percent cut of the profit.
Over:
Used for referring to space and to a quantity.
He gains over 20 million dollars a year.

Quote marks:
Exact words.
Put comma inside the ending quote marks
“The weather in costa rica was beautiful,” said matthew Contreras.
Seasons:
- When alone, winter,summer, fall, spring are lower case.
- Seasons are capitalized when a year is associated.
I’m coming back in the fall.
The Fall 2017 elections were so intense.
Titles:
- Don’t use mr., mrs., or ms. (Only if quoted)
- On a first reference, use first & last name. Then use last name only.
