Choropleth map
Map with color, shaded or patterns to show data
Isoline map
Lines to separate places by information
Dot Density map
Shows distrabution of something across an area using dots
Proportional/Graduated symbol map
Uses dots or symbols to indicate different amounts of data in different locations
Cartogram map
Size of location changes based of information
Mercator Projection
Used for Google maps. Good for direction and shape but sizes are messed up. (Mercator=messed up)
Peters projection
Equal area, maintains size. Very distorted. (looks like the tall mirror) (africa looks like a backwards p)
Robinson projection
Ballences projection. Not rectangular. (edge of map looks like the top of an R)
Geoode Homosine projection
Helps minimize distortions of land. Looks zig-zag shaped. (homo=not straight)
Planer/polar projection
FLattening a part of the map into a circle. (polar is the poles)
Scale
the area in the world being studied
Region
an area with certain characteristics that make it different from other areas
Formal Region
an area that has one or more shared traits. traits can be physical or population, income, ect. (we are all Iowans) (areas with set borders)
Functional Region
an area organized by its function around a focal point. (If you can use your phone you are in the functional region for your phone) (we are all apart of the I-80 functional Region)
Perceptual Region
affects people feelings towards a place.
