Revenue
Money that the Fed gov gains through taxing individuals
Congressional Committee
Groups of members appointed to analyze the legislation
Standing Committee
Permanent committee in the Legislative branch that focuses on policy making and reviewing bills
Select Committee
Temporary committee in the Legislative branch that focuses on a specific topic
Joint Committee
Committee involving both House and Senate, and typically discuss matters within Congress
Speaker of the House
Elected leader in the House of Rep.
President of the Senate
Vice President; in charge of counting and receiving ballots for the president
President Pro Tempore
Person that takes the leadership role of Senate, away from the Vice President
Majority Leader
Legislative leader chosen by the political party, that holds the most seats in the House and Senate
Minority Leader
Elected representative in the political party, that holds fewer seats in Congress
Majority and Minority Whips
Gather votes for their respective parties
Committee Chairperson
Leader of the Congressional committee, responsible for the committee’s agenda
Filibuster
Prolonging a debate by preventing a bill, vote, or law from being passed
Cloture
A Senate procedure that prevents filibustering
Quorum
Majority of the House must be present in order to enact
Hold
Senate procedure that involves objecting a proposal to temporarily block it
Unanimous Consent
All Senators agree to a proposed action
Rules Committee
Responsible for which rules under which bills will be presented to the House
Committee of the Whole
Temporary legislative committee, where the entire House participates, creating a more peaceful vote
Discharge Petition
Bringing a bill out of the committee to get a different analysis
Treaty Ratification
Discretionary Spending
Unnecessary spending, that can be adjusted through appropriation processes
