- Universal audience

Q2) What are 2 Literary forms found within Luke’s Gospel? Provide examples.
1) Parable
- (Greek = Parabello ‘to teach quickly’)
- Teaches spiritual/moral messages
- Begin with Jesus urging to listen closely
- Heavy use of metaphors/similes ‘it is like yeast’
Examples)
- The Prodigal Son (Lk 15:11) Don’t be jealous, as God is already blessing you.
- The Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Lk 18:19) Don’t expect things in return for your efforts.
2) Miracle story
- Narrative which revolves around special divine action
- Begins with setting, a problem, and a cure for problem, with the cure being special and reflected upon
- Heavy use of emotive language

- Jesus calms a storm (Lk 8:22)
- Feeding the Five Thousand (Lk 9:10)

- The call and acceptance to be a follower of Jesus.
- Discipleship becomes more important as gospel continues. Jesus’ most important teachings found at end of gospel (most significant information observed at end, audience remembers better)

1)
- Jesus’ message that everybody will be saved and blessed
- All people will be saved, no discrimination
- Ends with Luke urging audience to repent and pray
Examples)
- Jesus cleans a leper (Lk 5) - shows salvation for everybody, even sick
- Luke concludes asking repentance (Lk 24:44)
