A

1) Parable
- (Greek = Parabello ‘to teach quickly’)
- Teaches spiritual/moral messages
- Begin with Jesus urging to listen closely
- Heavy use of metaphors/similes ‘it is like yeast’

Examples)

  • The Prodigal Son (Lk 15:11) Don’t be jealous, as God is already blessing you.
  • The Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Lk 18:19) Don’t expect things in return for your efforts.

2) Miracle story
- Narrative which revolves around special divine action
- Begins with setting, a problem, and a cure for problem, with the cure being special and reflected upon
- Heavy use of emotive language

  • Jesus calms a storm (Lk 8:22)
  • Feeding the Five Thousand (Lk 9:10)

A

1)

  • The call and acceptance to be a follower of Jesus.
  • Discipleship becomes more important as gospel continues. Jesus’ most important teachings found at end of gospel (most significant information observed at end, audience remembers better)

Q5) Explain how Universal Salvation is developed within Luke, providing examples.

A

1)

  • Jesus’ message that everybody will be saved and blessed
  • All people will be saved, no discrimination
  • Ends with Luke urging audience to repent and pray

Examples)

  • Jesus cleans a leper (Lk 5) - shows salvation for everybody, even sick
  • Luke concludes asking repentance (Lk 24:44)
