What is definition of AS?
A
Narrowing of the aortic valve.
Ejection of blood flow across the aortic valve due to narrowing of the valve.

What are 3 key symptoms in a patient with AS?
A
- Angina (chest pain on exertion)
- SoB
- Syncope

Cardiovascular examination signs on AS?
A
- Harsh ejection systolic murmur radiating to the carotids (crescendo-decrescendo)
- S2 diminished and single
- Slow rising pulse (low pulse pressure)

What are the 3 main causes of AS?
A
Bicuspid aortic valve
Rheumatic aortic stenosis
