Aortic Stenosis Flashcards
1
Q
Clinical features
A
Asymptomatic Fatigue Angina Syncope Dyspnoea
2
Q
Differentiate aortic stenosis from aortic sclerosis
A
Sclerosis is seen in the elderly, pulse is normal volume , apex beat not displaced.
3
Q
Causes of AS
A
<60- rheumatic, congenital
60-75 calcified bicupid aortic valve- men
>75 years degenerative calcification
4
Q
HS 2 in AS
A
Soft- valve stenosis
5
Q
Ejection systolic murmur
A
Crescendo- decrescendo murmur- peaks in mid to late systole- delayed peak with increasing severity of stenosis
6
Q
Loudness of murmur and severity of stenosis
A
No connection, loudness due to cardiac output
7
Q
Causes of ejection systolic murmur at the base of the heart
A
Pulmonary stenosis
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
Supravalvular aortic stenosis.
