Aortic Coarctation Flashcards
1
Q
What happens in aortic coarctation?
A
Narrowing or constriction of the aorta which means that the blood has to be pumped at high pressure in order to be forced through the narrower lumen
2
Q
What causes aortic coarctation?
A
Can occur as development abnormality
Can be associated with Turners syndrome
3
Q
How can you determine the location of the aortic coarctation in a cardiovascular exam?
A
R-R delay= coarctation is in the ascending aorta before the trunks arise which give rise to the subclavian arteries
R-F delay= coarctation occurs after the trunks arise i.e. descending aorta
