A story in which the protagonist sets out ona journey, overcoming dangers in order to fulfil a goal, sometimes returning with a specific object or person. A traditional archetypal narrative structure seen in mythology, folklore and legends
Bildungsroman
A novel dealing with someone’s formative years or spiritual education
Kunstlerroman
A class of bildungsroman- where the protagonist is developing or on the threshold of becoming an artist

The study of the writing of histories
Post-modernism
A late 20th century literary movement characterised by:
* Self-conscious use of earlier styles and conventions
* Mixing of different artistic styles and media
* A general distrust of theories
