A

A. consistent failure to speak in specific social situations despite speaking in other settings
B, disturbance interferes with educational or occupational achievement or with social communication
C. 1 month (not limited to 1st month of school)
D. Not due to a lack of knowledge of or comfort with spoken language
E. Not better explained by a communication d/o and is not exclusive during course of ASD, schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder

Social Anxiety Disorder

A

A. Marked fear/anxiety re 1 or more social situations in which exposes individual to scrutiny of others such as social interactions (conversations, meeting new people), being observed (eating or drinking) or performing
B. fear re showing anxiety that will be negatively evaluated (humiliating or embarrassing)
C. social situations always provoke fear/anxiety
D. Avoid or endure with intense fear/anxiety
E. out of proportion with actual threat and in sociocultural context.
F. Persistent > 6 months
G. clinically significant distress or impairment in ares of function
H. Not attributable to physiological effects of substance (drugs or medications) or another medical condition
I. not better explained by another mental d/o such as panic d/o, body dysmorphic disorder, ASD
J. if another medical condition is present, fear/anxiety/avoidance is unrelated or excessive

Panic Disorder

A

A. Recurrent unexpected panic attacks which are abrupt surges of intense fear/discomfort which peaks in minutes and during with 4 or more occur incl:
1. palpitations, pounding heart or tachycardia
2. sweating
3. trembling or shaking
4. feelings of being SOB or smothering
5. choking sensation
6. CP or discomfort
7. Nausea or abd distress
8. dizzy, unsteady, light headed or faint
9. chills or heat sensations
10. paresthesias
11. derealization or depersonalization
12. fear of losing control or going crazy
13. fear of dying
B. one or more pain attack is followed by 1 or more months of both:
1. persistent concern/worry re more panic attacks/consequences
2. maladaptive change in behaviour related to attacks (eg efforts to avoid further attacks)
C. Not due to physiological effects of substance or another medical condition (eg hyperthyroid, or cardioresp d/o)
D. not better explained by another mental disorder (do not only occur in context of SAD, specific phobia, OCD, PTSD or separation anxiety)

Panic Attack Specifier

A

Abrupt surge of intense fear/discomfort that peaks within minutes and during which 4 or more occur incl:

palpitations, pounding heart or tachycardia
sweating
trembling or shaking
feelings of being SOB or smothering
choking sensation
CP or discomfort
Nausea or abd distress
dizzy, unsteady, light headed or faint
chills or heat sensations
paresthesias
derealization or depersonalization
fear of losing control or going crazy
fear of dying

Agoraphobia

A

A. Marked fear of anxiety about 2 or more of the following situations:
1. public transportation (eg car, bus, train, ship, planes)
2. open spaces (eg parking lots, marketplaces, bridges)
3. enclosed places (shops, theatres, cinema)
4. standing in line or being in a crowd
5. being outside of home alone
B. the individual fears or avoids these situations because of thoughts that escape might be difficult or help may be unavailable if panic-like or other embarrassing sx develop
C. Situations almost always provoke fear/anxiety
D. situations are actively avoided, require the presence of a companion, or endured with intense fear/anxiety
E. fear/anxiety is out of proportion to actual danger and sociocultural context.
F. persistent– lasting >6 months
G. causing clinically significant distress/impariment in area of function
H. if another medical condition (eg IBD, Parkinson’s disease) is present, fear/anxiety/avoidance is excessive
I. Not better explained by other mental illness (eg specific phobia, SAD, OCD, body dysmorphic d/o, PTSD, separation anxiety)

Generalized Anxiety disorder

A

A. Excessive worry/anxiety for more days than not for > 6 months re a number of events or activities
B. Individual finds it difficult to control worry
C. Anxiety/worry is associated with 3 or more (1 in children):
1. restlessness or feeling keyed up or on edge
2. easily fatigued
3. difficulty concentrating or mind goes blank
4. irritability
5. muscle tension
6. sleep disturbance
D. clinically significant distress and impairment in function
E. not due to physiological effects of substance or another medical conditions
F. Not better explained by another mental disorder (eg panic disorder, SAD, OCD, PTSD, separation anxiety, AN, somatic sx d/o illness anxiety disorder, delusions of a psychotic d/o)

A

A. marked fear/anxiety about a situation/object
B. the object/situation always provokes immediate fear/anxiety
C. phobic object is avoided or endured with intense fear/anxiety
D. fear/anxiety is out of proportion to actual danger and to sociocultural context
E. fear/anxiety/avoidance is persistent >6/12
F. Causes distress/impairment in important areas of function
G. Not better explained by other mental d/0 incl panic sx, agoraphobia, obsessions, PTSD, separation anxiety, SAD

Separation Anxiety

A

A. Developmentally inappropriate and excessive fear/anxiety re separation from attachment figures incl 3 of:
1. recurrent excessive distress anticipating/experiencing separation from home/major attachment figures
2. persistent & excessive worry re losing major attachment figures or harm to them
3. persistent & excessive worry re bad event (kidnapping, accident, lost, ill) causing separation
4. persistent reluctance or refusal to go out, away from home to school/work etc for fear of separation
5. persistent & excessive fear of being alone or without attachment figures
6. persistant reluctance/fear re sleeping away form home or going to sleep without attachment figure
7. repeated nightmares re separation
8. repeated complaints of physical sx when separated or when it is anticipated
B. fear, anxiety or avoidance is persistent– 4 weeks in children/adolescents and 6 months in adults
C. causes clinically significant distress/impairment in social, academic, occupational or other area of function
D. Not better explained by another mental disorder (eg ASD, psychosis, agoraphobia, GAD or illness anxiety d/o)
