Q

What are some diagnostic features of Anurans? (7)

A
  1. Development involves metamorphosis from tadpole into adult with distinct appearance
  2. Large eyes with binocular vision
  3. Short vertebral column before pelvis which is braced by zygapophyses
  4. Robust pectoral girdle and forelimbs to absorb impact of jumping
  5. Elongate pelvis with caudal vertebrae fused into a urostyle
  6. Hindlimb elongated with fused tibia and fibula
  7. Feet often webbed

Q

How to anurans locomote in a terrestrial versus aquatic environment?

A

Terrestrial environment: walking with little undulation, jumping and hopping due to their hinge like iliosacral joint
