Antimicrobiral agents used in wild animals Flashcards
Antimicrobrial defintion
An antimicrobial is an agent that kills microorganisms or stops their growth. Antimicrobial medicines can be grouped according to the microorganisms they act primarily against. For example, antibiotics are used against bacteria and antifungals are used against fungi.
Basically these ones are all for different infections
Amikacin
Used to treat serious bacterial infections For rodents 10-15 mg/kg SC, IM, IV q12h For bats 20 mg/kg SC q24h
antibiotic impregnated polymethlymethacrylate
widely used for prophylaxis or treatment of deep infections after total joint replacement. However, the effectiveness of antibiotic-loaded PMMA in preventing infections after arthroplasty is still controversial.
Amikacin To make antibiotic impregnated polymethlymethacrylate beads
1.25 g/20 g methylmethacrylate
Amoxicillan
Used to fight bacteria/infection esp respiratory infections
For rats, mice, squirrels, bats, raccoons, opossums, wild felids, canids; do not use in rabbits and certain species of rodents
10-20 mg/kg PO q8h
amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (clavamox, zoetis)
Used to fight bacteria/infection esp respiratory infections
do not use in rabbits and certain species of rodents
FOr rats, mice, squirrels, bats, raccoons, opossums, wild felids, canids
13-22 mg/kg PO q8-12h
ampicillin sodium/sulbactam (unsay, pfizer)
Used to fight bacteria/infection esp respiratory infections
