High incidence of allergic reactions
Take full course of antibiotics-unless rash or other s/s develop
Call MD if s/s of allergy occurs or other s/s develop
Call MD if s/s o allergy occurs or GI disturbance

Drug interactions -methotrexate-probenecid increases blood levels of -Cillin
Vancomycin-Vancocin
Tricyclics Glycopeptide antibiotic
Tx of staphylococcal (+) Clostridium Difficile
MRSA
Instruct pt to report any hypersensitivity tinnitus or vertigo
Test pt for Kidney function- Nephrotoxicity
May increase BUN
Red man Syndrome
Side Effects
Allergies: Most common drug allergies are antibiotics
GI- can kill host gut bacteria
Renal
Lowers effectiveness of hormonal birth control
Photosensiitvities
Amino-glycosides
Gentamicin
Gram Neg Side effect Ototoxicity Nephrotoxicity- Renal Labs Neuromuscular blockade
Avoid all other renal and Ototoxicity drugs.
Cyclines
Tetracycline
Tx of : H Pylori GI irritation- esophageal irritation. Liver and Renal toxic Discontinue for pregnant Photo sensitivity Take on and empty stomach
Erythromycin
Alternative to penicillin
Gram + - staph strep,
LIVER - AST, ALT, Bilirubin- (.1- 1.2)
Renal- for those with existing renal impairment
Take with food -probiotic
Vancomycin
used for serious infections: MRSA- severe Cdiff
Adverse effect: Nephrotixicity
Ototoxicity “ Red Man Syndrome”
VRE- Vancouver Resistant Enterococci
