Antihypertensives Flashcards
How does Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAS) work?
- Kidneys release Renin
- Liver releases Angiotensinogen and combines with Renin to make Angiotensin I
- Angiotensin I moves into the lungs and combines with ACE to make Angiotensin II
- Angiotensin II causes arteriolar vasoconstriction (^BP) and Kidneys release of Aldosterone resulting in tubular Na+, Cl- reabsorption and K+ excretion and H2O retention, increased sympathetic system activity, and release of ADH from the pituitary gland which causes the collecting duct to reabsorb H2O
- H2O and NaCl retention increases circulating volume. Perfusion of the juxtaglomerular apparatus increases negatively effecting the release of Renin.
