Systemic fungal infections
Amphotericin B Deoxycholate is administered via
IV (not absorbed through GI)
Slowly infused 2-6 hrs

Chills, fever, NV, anorexia, Hepatotoxicity, hypokalemia, hypomagnesia, hypotension
Flucanazole (Diflucan) adverse affects
Increased ALT & AST, BUN, creatinine, pregnancy
Flucanazole is preferred treatment for
Candidiasis
Griseofulvin is used for
Tinea capitus
Griseofulvin adverse affects
Neutropenia, pregnancy
Terbinafine (Lamisil) use
Tinea pedis, Tinea cruris, Tinea corporis, fingernails and toenails
What are nursing considerations before administering antifungals?
Baseline blood counts, liver, renal tests, vitals
Nystatin (Nystex) use
Oral candidiasis
Diaper rash
Antiprotozoan medication
Metronidazole (flagyl)
Metronidazole (Flagyl) use
C.dif, H.Pylori, dysentery, abd abcess
When meteronidazole is used with Alcohol
Tremors, diaphoresis, decreased BP, increased NV
What is the main complain/ adverse affect of metronidazole?
Metallic taste in mouth
