Q

How does resistance to Alkylating agents occur?

A

-Alkylating agents binds to DNA, is seen as damage, and is killed. If DNA repair enzymes are able to correct the lesions prior to cell division, the effect of the alkylating agent can be negated and resistance develops. If the damage is too much to be repaired, p53 starts apoptosis. Mutations in this gene can lead to resistance as well. due to failure to undergo apoptosis
