Meningitis Hospital
IV Ceftriaxone and IV Dexamethasone
When should the steroid be given in meningitis
With or before the first dose of ceftriaxone

Ceftriaxone
Mild to Moderate CAP
Amoxicillin PO
Mild to Moderate CAP with penicillin allergy
Doxycylcine
Severe CAP
IV co-amoxiclav and Doxycycline
Severe CAP with penicillin allergy
IV Doxycycline and Levofloxacin
NBM CAP
IV co-amoxiclav and IV clarythromycin
Severe HAP
IV Amoxicillin, Gentamicin and Metronidazole
Severe HAP with penicillin allergy
IV Co-trimoxazole, Gentamicin and Metronidazole
Non Severe HAP
PO Amoxicillin and metronidazole
Acute COPD Exacerbation
Amoxicillin or doxycycline. Only if increased sputum purulence
Acute cough / chronic bronchitis
No benefit - frail elderly may benefit from amoxicillin
Native valve endocarditis
IV Amoxicillin
Native valve and severe sepsis Endocarditis
IV Flucloxacillin
