antibacterials 2 Flashcards
-(phenoxymethylpenicillin) was first reported as a biosynthetic product by Behrens et al. in 1948.
-resistant to hydrolysis by gastric juice, allowing it to produce uniform blood concentrations when taken orally
Penicillin V
-(Staphcillin) was introduced in 1960 as the second penicillin developed from synthetic analog research.
-Parenteral solutions last only 24 hours if refrigerated.
-Resistant to inactivation by staphylococcal penicillinase.
-Used for treating staphylococcal infections resistant to other penicillins.
Methicillin sodium
(Amoxil, Larotid, Polymox) is a semisynthetic penicillin introduced in 1974
It is the p-hydroxy analog of ampicillin, synthesized by acylating 6-APA with p-hydroxyphenylglycine
Resistant to acid, making it stable for oral use.
