Anti Ice and Wing Protection Flashcards
1
Q
Anti-ice location
A
- Engine cowls are heated by engine bleed air
- Three mid-wing slats heated by bleed air from right and left bleed air ducts
- Flight deck windows and all probes are heated electrically
2
Q
Primary ice detection system
A
- It is fully automatic
- It includes 2 fuselage side-mounted probes
- If ice build up is sensed by either probe, both probes heated until fully de-iced (Icing cycle)
- Wing anti-icing delayed until greater number of ice build cycles occur
3
Q
Wing anti-ice extra info 1
A
Wing Anti-ice can only be activated during flight
4
Q
-All Anti-ice systems are inhibited for 5 minutes after take-off if the temp is at or above 10 degrees Celsius
A
-Automatic operation is inhibited until 10 minutes after T/O thrust is set or until thrust is set to CLB thrust
5
Q
Window Heat system
A
- The window heat system electrically heats all flight deck windows
- When system is activated a ‘reduced power warm cycle’ is used to decrease thermal shock
- All windows are heated for anti-fog protection
- Forward windows heated for anti-ice protection
6
Q
Windshield rain removal
A
- A liquid repellent system is not installed on the 777
- The pilots’ windshield are treated with a ‘hydrophobic coating’
- Hydrophobic coating causes water droplets to roll off with minimal wind. As speed increases so does the effectiveness of the coating
