Anti-Hypertensives Flashcards
1
Q
Thiazide diuretics
- types + doses
- MoA
- time for effect
- LT effect
A
Bendrofluazide (2.5mg od), chlorothalidone (12.5-25mg od),hydrochlorothiazide.
Inhibit NaCl in DCT causing mild diuresis/natriuresis, vasodilatory by opening vascular K channels.
Takes 8-12wks to see effect
LT - inhibits renal tubular reabsorption + reduce total body Na/H2O (reducing BP)
2
Q
What are the SEs of thiazide diuretics?
A
Diuresis Erectile dysfunction Reduce glucose tolerance + insulin sensitivity Increases urate + exacerbates gout Reduces K/Na/Mg
3
Q
Loop Diuretics
- Dose
- MoA
- Used for
- PDs
A
Frusemide 40mg od
Inhibits NKCC2 channel in TAL = potent diuretic
For severe/resistant HTN w/ ACEi
Steep dose-response curve
4
Q
What are the SEs for loop diuretics?
A
Dehydration
Polyuria
Reduced Na/K/Mg
