Cyclizine
H1 receptor antagonist.
50mg/8h PO/IV/IM.
For GI causes.
Cinnarizine
H1 receptor antagonist.
30mg/8h PO.
For vestibular disorders.
Metoclopramide
D2 receptor antagonist.
10mg/8h PO/IV/IM.
For GI causes.
Pro-kinetic.
Domperidone
D2 receptor antagonist.
60mg/12h PR, 20mg/6h PO.
Pro-kinetic.
Prochlorperazine
D2 receptor antagonist.
12.5mg IM, 5mg/8h PO.
For vestibular/GI causes.
Haloperidol
D2 receptor antagonist.
1.5mg/12h PO.
For chemical causes, e.g. opioids.
Ondansetron
5HT3 receptor antagonist.
4-8mg/8h IV slowly, doses can be higher for e.g. emetogenic chemotherapy.
Hyoscine hydrobromide
200-600mcg SC/IM.
Antimuscarinic, therefore also antispasmodic and antisecretory (don’t prescribe with pro-kinetic).
Dexamethasone
6-10mg/d PO/SC.
Unknown mode of action.
Adjuvant.
Midazolam
2-4mg/d SC (syringe driver)
Unknown action.
Anti-emetic effect outlasts sedative effect.
