Anti C's Flashcards
RCFS Article governing Anti-Contamination Clothing?
Article 518
What is the purpose of Anti-contamination Clothing?
Prevent personnel contamination when working in areas where unsealed radioactive material is present. Prevent the spread of contamination if personnel are contaminated.
What is included in donning a partial set of Anti C’s?
-Anything less than full set
-At minimum includes: Cotton liners, rubber gloves, plastic shoe covers and rubber overshoes.
When is Partial set of Anti C’s worn?
-Worn when surface contamination levels are: >450 uuCi per 100 cm2 but ≦10,000 uuCi per100 cm2.
-For low level or probable uncontaminated area.
What does a full set of Anti-C’s consist of?
Consists of hood, coveralls, cotton liners, rubber gloves, plastic shoe covers, and rubber overshoes.
When is a full set of Anti-C’s worn
-Worn when surface contamination levels are >10,000 μμCi per 100 cm², but <100,000 μμCi per 100 cm².
-Personnel contamination is likely.
-The contamination levels are unknown.
-Detectable alpha contamination
What does the double set of Anti-C’s consist of?
Consists of the full set of anti-Cs plus a second set of coveralls, second hood, second set of rubber gloves and plastic shoe covers taped to the first set of coveralls.
When is a double set of Anti-C’s worn?
Worn when surface contamination levels are ≧100,000 uuCi per 100 cm2.
Why do we wear Double set of Anti-C’s?
Double suits limit the contamination that penetrates the material during the work and improves the ease of controlling the spread of contamination
When are wet suits required for wear?
Wet Suits (waterproof clothing) are required when working in a contaminated wet area and it is likely that personnel could be sprayed with
radioactive liquids (donning procedure is in Appendix H).
When are respirators required for wear?
Respirators are required when surface contamination limits are ≧ to 25,000 uuCi per 100 cm2.
When are face shields required for wear?
Face shields are required whenever a person’s body must be in close proximity (less than 1 foot) to very highly contaminated surfaces such as beta gamma emitters > 100,000 μμCi per 100 cm² (respirators fulfill this requirement).
What appendix of RCFS covers donning and doffing of Anti-C’s?
Appendix H
What should be done prior to donning any anti-contamination clothing?
-Perform a physical check of all items for holes, rips, tears, or other damage.
-Pay particular attention to sewn seams, Velcro stitching, coverall stirrups and the draw cord.
Donning order of Anti-C’s?
(a) Plastic shoe covers
(b) Cotton gloves
(c) Don coveralls
(d) Rubber overshoes
(e) Respirator (if necessary)
(f) Hood
(g) Rubber gloves
