Long-acting nitrates
What are the names of some common short-acting nitrates?
Sublingual nitroglycerin (Nitrostat) Nitroglycerin Spray (NitroMist)

Sublingual nitroglycerin (short-acting)
MOA
Form nitric oxide, which leads to smooth muscle relaxation (vasodilation) - prescribed to keep vessels open for as long as possible so that BF is not occluded
Decrease TPR ==> decrease SVR ==> decrease BP ==> decrease stress on heart
Indications:
Angina
CHF
Common adverse reactions:
Headache
Lightheadedness/syncope
OTN (if vessels overdilated)
need to monitor BP response if Pt. takes it in the clinic bc of chest pain
