Was a famous Armchair Anthropologist who created the first defenition of Culture. Additionally, he beleived that human groups went through 3 stages: Savagery, Barbarism, Civilization
Sir James Frazer
An Armchair Anthropologist that relied soeley on the descriptions of others to publish his book called “The Golden Bough”.
Franz Boas
He is known as the founder of American Anthropology, and developed the idea of Cultural Relativism. Additionally, he worked to have Anthropology and its sub disciplines properly recognized as an academic field.
Bronislaw Malinowski
A Polish Anthropologist who became stranded in the Trobriand Islands. While he was stuck there, he developed the idea of Participant Observation. However, in modern times some people critique him for going too far with this philosophy and crossing some ethical boundaries.
Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was born as a light skin individual. He went exploring on a ship called the beagle, and noticed that the different in skin color was the largest difference between different peoples, rejecting the idea that skin color is related to different climate zones
Zhang Qian
He was a military officer who was travelling through Central Asia. He spent roughly 25 years documenting the varying cultures of different people he met. The emperor used this information to establish relationships with the groups
