Anterior Thigh- muscles Flashcards
Psoas major- origin
Posterior abdominal wall (lumbar transverse processes, intervertebral discs, and adjacent bodies from TXII to LV and tendinous arches between these points)
Psoas major- insertion
Lesser trochanter of femur
Psoas major- innervation
Anterior rami (L1, L2, L3)
Psoas major- function
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint
Iliacus- origin
Posterior abdominal wall (iliac fossa)
Iliacus- insertion
Lesser trochanter of femur
Iliacus- innveration
Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Iliacus- function
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint
Vastus medialis- origin
Femur- medial part of intertrochanteric line, pectineal line, medial lip of the line aspera, medial supracondylar line
Vastus medialis- insertion
Quadriceps femoris tendon and medial border of patella
Vastus medialis- innervation
Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Vastus medialis- function
Extends the leg at the knee joint
Vastus intermedius- origin
Femur- upper two-thirds of anterior and lateral surfaces
Vastus intermedius- insertion
Quadriceps femoris tendon, lateral margin of patella, and lateral condyle of tibia
Vastus intermedius- inneration
Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Vastus intermedius- function
Extends the leg at the knee joint
Vastus lateralis- origin
Femur- lateral part of intertrochanteric line, margin of greater trochanter, lateral margin of gluteal tuberosity, lateral lip of the line aspera
Vastus lateralis- insertion
Quadriceps femoris tendon and lateral margin of patella
Vastus lateralis- innervation
Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Vastus lateralis- function
Extends the leg at the knee joint
Rectus femoris- origin
Straight head originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine; reflected head originates from the ilium just superior to the acetabulum
Rectus femoris- insertion
Quadriceps femoris tendon
Rectus femoris- innervation
Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Rectus femoris- function
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint and extends the leg at the knee joint
Sartorius- origin
Anterior superior iliac spine
Sartorius- insertion
Medial surface of tibia just inferomedial to tibial tuberosity
Sartorius- innervation
Femoral nerve (L2, L3)
Sartorius- function
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint and flexes the leg at the knee joint
Psoas minor- origin
Lateral surface of bodies of TXII and LI vertebrae and intervening vertebral disks
Psoas minor- insertion
Pectineal line of the pelvic brim and iliopubic eminence
Psoas minor- innervation
Anterior rami of LI
Psoas minor- function
Weak flexion of lumbar vertebral column
