Anterior Thigh Flashcards
Psoas Major origin
Sides of transverse processes of T12-L5 and associated discs
Psoas Major insertion
Lesser trochanter of femur
Psoas Major action
Acts conjointly to flex thigh at hip joint; postural muscle, maintain lumbar lordosis

Anterior rami of L1, L2, L3
Iliacus origin
Iliac crest, fossa, ala of sacrum, anterior SI ligament
Iliacus insertion
Tendon of Psoas Major into lesser trochanter of femur
Iliacus action
Acts conjointly to flex thigh at hip joint; postural muscle, maintain lumbar lordosis
Iliacus innervation
Femoral nerve L2*, L3
Psoas Minor origin
Sides of transverse processes of T12 and L1 vertebrae and associated discs
Psoas Minor insertion
Pectinal line of pubis
Psoas Minor action
Weakly assists the Psoas Major
Psoas Minor innervation
Anterior rami of L1, L2
Rectus Femoris origin
AIIS, Ilium superior to the acetabulum
Rectus Femoris insertion
Paella via the quadriceps tendon, continuing to the tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
Rectus Femoris action

Femoral nerve L2, L3, L4
Sartorius origin
ASIS & superior part of notch inferior to it
Sartorius insertion
Anteriomedial surface of proximal tibia, continues to pes anserinus
Sartorius action
Flex, externally rotates, and abducts the thigh, flexes and weakly internally rotates leg at knee
Sartorius innervation
Femoral nerve L2, L3
Pectineus origin
Superior ramus of pubis (pectineal line of pubis)
Pectineus insertion
Inferior to lesser trochanter of femur (pectineal line of femur)
Pectineus action
Adducts, flexes, and laterally rotates the thigh
