anterior pituitary Flashcards
1
Q
what does the paraventricular nucleus release to the anterior pituitary
A
- CRH (corticotropin releasing hormones)
CRH stimulates a corticotrope, releasing ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) - TRH (thyrotropin releasing hormones), stimulates a thyrotrope, releasing TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)
2
Q
what is released to the anterior pituitary from the arcuate nucleus
A
- growth hormone releasing hormone, simulates a somatotrope, releasing GH
- PIH (dopamine) - inhibiting a lactotrope, so prolactin release is inhibited
3
Q
what is released to the anterior pituitary from the pre-optic nucleus
A
GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone), stimulates the gonadotrope to release FSH and LH
4
Q
what is the growth hormone inhibiting hormone
A
somatostatin
5
Q
what stimulates CRH release (leads to ACTH release)
A
fever
hypoglycaemia
stress
6
Q
what stimulates the release of TSH
A
cold temp
pregnancy
7
Q
what can stimulate growth hormone releasing hormone
A
hypoglycaemia
high levels of amino acids in the blood
low fatty acid levels in the blood
exercise
