anterior pituitary Flashcards

1
Q

what does the paraventricular nucleus release to the anterior pituitary

A
  • CRH (corticotropin releasing hormones)
CRH stimulates a corticotrope, releasing ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
  • TRH (thyrotropin releasing hormones), stimulates a thyrotrope, releasing TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)

Q

what is released to the anterior pituitary from the arcuate nucleus

A
  • growth hormone releasing hormone, simulates a somatotrope, releasing GH
  • PIH (dopamine) - inhibiting a lactotrope, so prolactin release is inhibited
