Anterior Hip and Thigh Flashcards
Muscle, Origin, Insertion, iNervation, Function
O: Tensor Fascia Latae
O: Lateral aspect of crest of ilium between anterior superior iliac spine and tubercle of the crest
O: Sartorius
O: Anterior superior iliac spine
O: Rectus Femoris
O: Straight head originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine; relfected tendon originates from the ilium just superior to the acetabulum
O: Vastus Lateralis
O: Femur - lateral part of interotrochanteric line, margin of greater trochanger, lateral margin of gluteal tuberosity, lateral lip of linea aspera
O: Vastus Intermedius
O: Femur - upper 2/3rds of anterior and lateral surfaces
O: Vastus Medialis
O: Femur - medial part of intertrochanteric line, pectineal line, medial lip of linea aspera, medial supracondylar line
I: Vastus Medialis
I: Quadriceps femoris tendon and medial border of the patella

Femoral Nerve
F: Vastus Medialis
F: Extends the leg at the knee joint
F: Vastus Intermedius
F: Extends the leg at the knee joint
F: Vastus lateralis
F: Extends the leg at the knee joint
F: Rectus Femoris
F: Flexes the thigh at the hip joint and extends the leg at the knee joint
F: Sartorius
F: Sartorius is a weak flexor and lateral rotator and assists in abduction fo the hip joint. It also flexes the knee and medially rotates the leg when the knee is flexed
F: Tensor Fascia Latae
F: Assists in flexion, ABD, and medial rotator of the hip joint. Assists with knee extension and stabilizes the knee in extension.
