Anterior Hip and Thigh Flashcards
TFL
Origin: Lateral aspect of crest of ilium between anterior superior iliac spine and tubercle of the crest
Insertion: Iliotibial tract of fascia latae
Innervation: L4-L5-S; Superior gluteal nerve
Function: Assists in flexion, abduction and medial rotation of the hip joint. Assists with knee extension and stabilizes the knee in extension.
Rectus Femoris
Origin: Straight head
originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine; reflected tendon originates from the ilium just superior to the acetabulum
Insertion: Quadriceps femoris tendon
Innervation: L2-L3-L4 Femoral nerve
Function: Femoral nerve
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint and extends the leg at the knee joint
Vastus Lateralis
Origin: Femur - lateral part of intertrochanteric line, margin of greater tro- chanter, lateral margin of gluteal tuberosity, lateral lip of the linea aspera
Insertion: Quadriceps femoris tendon of femur and lateral margin of patella
Innervation: L2-L3-L4 Femoral nerve
Function: Extends the leg at the knee joint
Vastus Intermedius
Origin: Femur - upper 2/3rds of anterior and lateral surfaces
Insertion: Quadriceps femoris tendon
Innervation: L2-L3-L4 Femoral nerve
Function: Extends the leg at the knee joint
Vastus Medialis
Origin: Femur- medial part of intertrochanteric line, pectineal line, medial lip of the linea aspera, me- dial supracondylar line
Insertion: Quadricpes femoris tendon and medial border of the patella
Innervation: L2-L3-L4 Femoral nerve
Function: Extends the leg at the knee joint
