Q

What is “Charley horse”?

A
  • cramping of thigh muscle because of ischemia /contusion -results in hematoma due to tearing fibers of rectus femurs m.
  • most common site of hematoma is the quadriceps.

Q

What is the clinical presentation of a psoas abscess?

A
  • edema in the proximal part of the thigh superior and inferior to the inguinal ligament

8
Q

What is clinical presentation of paralysis of quadriceps?

A
  • can not extend the LEG against resistance
  • presses distal end of the thigh during walking to prevent inadvertent flexion of the knee joint (otherwise they’d have to extend it back…)

Q

What causes abnormal patellar movement and loss of knee joint stability?

A
  • weakness of Vastus Medialis M. and Vastus Lateralis M.

- from arthritis or trauma to the knee joint

Q

What three things cause chondromalacia patellae?

A
  • quadricep imbalance
  • blow to the patella
  • extreme flexion of the knee (during squatting when powerlifting)

Q

What two things cause patellar fractures?

14
Q

What happens during patellar fractures?

A
  • proximal fragment of the patella gets pulled by the quadriceps
  • distal fragment remains with the patellar ligament

16
Q

What causes a bipartite or tripartite patella?

A
  • ossification centers never coalesce; causes two or three fragments
  • can be misinterpreted as Patellar fx on X-ray (assess bilaterally)
17
Q

What does the patellar tendon reflex test?

A
  • femoral nerve

- L2-L4 spinal cord segments

18
Q

What is a groin pull?

A

-stretching and tearing of the proximal attachments of the anteromedial thigh muscles

19
Q

Where do the anteromedial thigh muscles attach?

A

-inguinal region (groin)

20
Q

What causes groin pull?

A
  • extreme stretching

- quick starts (sprinting, base stealing in baseball)
