Anterior Abdominal Wall Flashcards
Layers of anterolateral abdominal wall (superficial to deep)
skin> superficial fatty layer > scarpa fascia > external oblique > internal oblique > transversus abdominus > transversalis fascia > parietal peritoneum
Rectus sheath
aponeurotic sheath
Envelopes rectus abdominus m and pyramidalis m
Posterior and anterior layers
Relative to arcuate line
Rectus sheath superior to arcuate line
Anterior layer: aponeuroses of EO and 1/2 IO
Posterior layer: aponeuroses of 1/2 IO, TA, and transversalis fascia
Rectus sheath inferior to arcuate line
Anterior layer: Aponeuroses of EO, IO, TA
Posterior layer: Transversalis fascia

Branch of external iliac
Runs between internal oblique and transversalis abdominis
What does deep circumflex iliac supply?
inferior lateral abdominal mm.

branch of internal thoracic (mammary)
Enters posterior rectus sheath lateral to sternum
Anastomoses with inferior epigastric
What does superior epigastric supply?
Supplies rectus abdominus muscle
Path of musculophrenic vessels
Branch of internal thoracic (mammary)
Runs along costal cartilages
What does musculophrenic vessel supply?
Upper abdominal muscle and diaphragm
