What is antenatal care
Antenatal care is the care of the pregnant woman to deliver a healthy term infant without impairing the mothers health and to identify and optimally treat the high-risk pregnant woman
How to achieve antenatal care definition
Screening asymptomatic pregnant women, to detect and prevent both maternal and neonatal events.

Every 4 weeks

What does the initial antenatal visit involve
Baseline assessment
- physical, abdominal and breast examination
- record height and weight
- BP
- Urinalysis
- Bloods
- FBC, Hb, Blood group, rh and atypical antibodies
- VDRL screening (syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea
- HIV screening
