Define Gestational age
- duration of pregnancy starting from LMP
When is Estimated date of delivery
40 weeks gestation (40 weeks from LMP)
Define Gravida
- total number of pregnancies a woman has had
Primigravida
- pregnant for the first time
Multigravida
- patient is pregnant for at least the second time
What is Para
- number of times the woman has given birth after 24 weeks regardless of whether the baby was alive or stilborn
Define Nulliparous (nullip)
refers to a patient who has never given birth after 24 weeks
Define Primiparous
refers to a patient that has given birth after 24 weeks once before
Multiparous (multip)
refers to a patient that’s given birth after 24 weeks two or more times.
Gravida and parity for A pregnant women with three previous deliveries at term
= G4 P3
Gravida and parity for A non pregnant woman with a previous birth of healthy twins
= G1 P1
Gravida and parity for A non pregnant woman with a previous miscarraige
= G1 P0+1
Gravida and parity for A non pregnant woman with a previous stillbirth
= G1 P1
Booking visit time
8-12 weeks, ideally <10 weeks
What is given/taken at booking visit? (4)
general information e.g. diet, alcohol, smoking, folic acid, vitamin D, antenatal classes
BP, urine dipstick, check BMI
Which bloods are done at booking visit (8)
FBC, blood group, rhesus status, red cell alloantibodies, haemoglobinopathies
hepatitis B, syphilis
HIV test is offered to all women
